Sergio Atehortua-Gomez

Sergio is a Newsletter Editor for Economy Zero Group. He supports the coordination, editing, and publication of the Decarb Digest, working closely with the Editorial Manager to deliver high-quality content on economic decarbonization across global regions. Sergio helps manage the Op-Ed pipeline, engages with third-party contributors and partners, and ensures alignment with EZG’s voice and research strategy. He will also play a key role in engaging the newsletter’s audience, while overseeing its timely distribution and performance.


He is a policy and legal professional working at the intersection of government, law, and international development, with experience across national and subnational institutions, judiciaries, international organizations, and NGOs in Latin America. Sergio has worked on a wide range of issues including environmental policy, migration, land use, food systems, and human rights. He holds a Juris Doctor and a degree in Political Science from Universidad de los Andes, as well as a graduate degree in Government and Territorial Public Management from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. He also holds a Master of Public Administration from the London School of Economics and a Master of Global Affairs from the University of Toronto. Originally from Colombia, Sergio is passionate about sustainable agriculture and is actively involved in regenerating family farmland with a focus on food systems and biodiversity.
